GS Film Minds is a Winnipeg-based film education project founded by producer and educator Julia Sharipova.
About GS Film Minds
GS Film Minds is an independent film education initiative based in Winnipeg, Canada. We offer a space for people who want to understand cinema more deeply and explore storytelling through analysis, discussion, and creative practice.
Our educational programs welcome both film enthusiasts and aspiring filmmakers. Alongside our courses, we are developing opportunities for film screenings, professional exchange, and creative project development, with the long-term goal of connecting filmmakers, audiences, and film communities across Canada.
Meet the founder
Julia Sharipova is a film producer and educator who has worked in cinema since 2012. She studied film and television production at VGIK in Moscow and completed the Kultburo Producers’ Lab. In 2015, she founded Midpoint Film School, which she led for seven years. Hundreds of students attended its courses in screenwriting, directing, cinematography, editing, and producing.
Julia has also taught film studies at a university in Russia, produced fiction and documentary films, and organized four film project pitching events with the Union of Cinematographers of Russia.
In Canada, Julia’s work and volunteer experience includes the Winnipeg International Jazz Festival, Gimli International Film Festival, U Multicultural Channel, Dave Barber Cinematheque, Théâtre du Molière, and Storybridge Network. Through these organizations, she has contributed to film, media, and cultural initiatives in Winnipeg and Manitoba. She founded GS Film Minds to bring her experience in film education and project development to a new community in Canada.
Our Mission
Our mission is to support both emerging and professional filmmakers in Canada and beyond, while creating a space where audiences can engage with cinema more deeply. GS Film Minds brings together film education, creative development, and professional exchange. We aim to help emerging filmmakers develop their skills, ideas, and projects, while creating opportunities for experienced filmmakers and industry professionals to share their knowledge, connect with new audiences, and take part in meaningful creative dialogue. Through courses, workshops, film screenings, discussions, industry events, and project development initiatives, we want to create connections between filmmakers, film professionals, students, and audiences. We believe film culture grows when people have opportunities not only to watch cinema, but to understand it, discuss it, create it, and share their work with others. Our goal is to build an open and internationally connected film community in Canada — one that supports new voices, encourages collaboration, and creates opportunities for films and filmmakers to reach new audiences.
